New Miyako Hotel was one of the choices included in the Free Plan 1-night Kyoto package offered by JTB Sunrise Tour. Also included in the package was a pair of return tickets on Hikari Super Express from Tokyo. We have saved a considerable amount of monies and paid 22,500 yen net per person for the package. If you wish to stay in a ryokan, they also offer stay at Gion Yoshi-ima at 32,500 yen net per person.
The hotel is only a few minutes away from the Shinkansen station but approximately 10 minutes walk from the Central bus station. The room was sizeable enough for two people but cannot comment on the facilities as we were out until late at night and didn’t make use of any. However, if you are thinking of having your wedding in Kyoto, they do have a ‘glass’ chapel in the hotel catering for that!!
It’s worth mentioning that the strip of restaurants located on the right hand side of the station near the souvenir shops are much cheaper than those situated towards the bus stop and some even sell bento boxes to take away. It’s a good place to try local cuisine as all of them have plastic models showing in the shop front!
