Architecture: The world's 2nd largest sundial!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Most people in San Francsco have no idea that their city is host to the world's second largest sundial. It was built in 1913 as a gimic to attract people to a new housing development that was built arround the configuration of the old Ingleside Race Track.

Here are the directions so that you can find the sun dial within the maze of streets that shield it from the world: Drive along Ocean Avenue until you reach Victoria (these streets meet where the Voice of Pentecost Church occupies the old El Rey theater). Go only one block along Victoria, turn right on Urbano, turn left on Borica, and right on Entrado

Off The Beaten Path: A giant Olmec head in San Francisco?
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • In 1862, workmen clearing a field in the state of Veracruz uncovered a stone sculpture in the shape of an expressionless face with piercing eyes, a flat broad nose, and thick, down-turned lips. This discovery would open the door to scientific inquiry into the mysterious Olmec culture that thrived in the fertile jungles of lowland Mexico 1200 B.C.–400 B.C. It was one of the earliest civilizations in the Americas. You can see a replica of one at San Francisoico City College between the creative arts builing and the Diego Rivera theatre
