Puerto Alegre: Puerto Alegre - Good Mexican food
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Puerto Alegre

If you want good cheap Mexican food this is the place! The margaritas are good but would be better if they used fresh squeezed lime juice instead of a generic mix and had a better selection of tequila. It can be annoying with the mariachi bands that always come through but hey, that's part of the Mission! Always crowded at night so get there early or be prepared for a wait. You can always order food at the bar if you can't get a table.

Red's Java House: Red's Java House - A San Francisco Institution
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Red's Java House

Famous for its burger and a beer for $3

Red's Java House has been a San Francisco institution since 1956 when only dockworkers lunched along the Embarcadero and "fancy" was a fightin' word.

The burgers and sandwiches come on French rolls smeared with mayo, mustand and not much else.

Favorite Dish: The burgers with a beer are mighty good!

Beep's Burgers: Beep's Burgers - Not just hamburgers
  • Tip Rating:

  • Restaurant Name: Beep's Burgers

Beep's has been an Ocean Avenue landmark for a long time. It's success is attrubited to it tasty and inexpensive food!

In addition to tasty burgers and think cut fries, Beeps also offers some teriyaki with rice bowls.

Favorite Dish: The pineapple milk shakes are pretty damn good!

    Chevy's: Chips, salsa, & margaritas!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Chevy's

When in the neighborhood, I go to the Chevy's bar for a top shelf margarita and the free chips and salsa. A top shelf margarita in a super big glass with all the chips and salsa you want will only set you back about $8. The chips are freshly made and often come hot out of the tortilla making machine. Did I mention that the salsa is really yummy?

    Favorite Dish: Margaritas!
