The small but beautiful island of Santorini (Thera) is the last island in the Cyclades island chain and one of the most beautiful places on the earth, if you pick a travel broucher of Greece up the front cover picture will be of Santorini .
Santorini rises up out of the brilliant blue sea the massive reddish black unscalable volcanic cliffs are topped by gleaming white village houses with their blue roofed churches.The contrast of deep blue of the sea with the red ,brown and black colours of the land create a wild imposing natural beauty not found anywere else crating a scene you will never forget and will want to return or in some cases never leave .
Nature`s power has crated a circle of islands when the still active volcano erupted 3,500 thousand years ago wiping out the Minoan civilisation here on Santorini and Crete 70 miles away , blowing the island totally apart forming a massive crater the (caldera ) the sea rushed in to form a natural deep water harbour. To day visited by many cruise ships swelling the number of visitors that flock to Santorini
The three main islands of Santorini are Thera which is shaped like a horseshoe and the smaller islands of Therasia and Aspronisi in the middle of the main islands the centre of the caldera a new volcano is forming into two islands Palae Kameni (old burnt island) Nea Kameni (new brunt island)
