At Esna is a massive lock that takes upto 2 hours to fill to enable the Nile cruisers to move up and down the Nile so boats have to wait their turn to enter the lock 2 boats at a time.
When you approach Esna from luxor be prepared to be ambushed by the best rowers in the world as they chase your cruiser to sell their wares throwing a rope to tie themselves to the boat to sell you everything from towels ,carpets, tablecloths and Egyptian costumes for your fancy dress party on the boat later in the week |
