Deer Lodge Valley - My Wife's Hometown

About an hour's drive SE of Missoula, Deer Lodge is smakc in the middle of ranch country. The town itself has about 2000 residents, but it is the shopping and netertainment stop for all the ranches in the area as well. It is also home to the State Prison, Warm Spring Mental Hospital and the Grant Kohrs Ranch. The old prison has been converted into a museum right in town, while the new prison is out of town a ways.

I love driving from Missoula and looking over at my wife as we decend into the Deer Lodge Valley. I can just see her relax and know she is coming home. She grew up here in town with some time out at the family ranch and at her Grand mother's house in Anaconda.

Deer lodge is laid out nicely - they had thought they were to become the state capital and planned accordingly. Wide streets, lots of parks.
