Just north of Del Mar | Solana Beach at low tide. |
I had never heard of Solana Beach but chose it for the condo I found there. I was looking for something close to San Diego but quiet and central. With the Coaster train it was a 20 minute train ride from downtown and yet very peaceful. Nestled between I5 and the water, our condo was nestled on a cliff with nothing but ocean out the front windows.
The town exuded money judging from the property values and the number of fancy cars but the people were friendly and laid back. Didn't realize there were so many different models of Mercedes and BMW's! |

| | Ahhh the sunsets! If you have read any of my other tips you already know that I bring everything to a screeching halt to watch the sunset. |
| | Central location Solana Beach was well located to visit the Big 4. Sea World and San Diego Zoo were a 20 minute train ride on the Coaster and then a bus ride from downtown. Leggo Land (great for kids under 11) was a 20 minute drive north to Carlsbad. The San Diego Wild Animal Park was a 30 minute drive east. So we would spend a day at an attraction and then a rest day at the beach. Spaced everything out nicely without feeling overwhelmed. |
