Favorite thing: I find Kodiak a very easy town to walk around - especially the downtown area. All the museums (Baranof, Alutiiq, Wildlife Refuge Center) and many of Kodiak's restaurants, shops, our one local brewery, Russian Orthodox Church, both boat harbors, post office and the library can be reached on foot.
A self guided walking tour is easy to do. A suggested itinerary is available at the visitor's center at Pier 1 where the ferry Tustemena ties up.
If you fly in, the airport is about 4 miles from downtown and there isn't any public transportation. Safeway, Walmart are four miles away at the other end of Mill Bay Road.
