A bit of retail therapy.

Sunday market in Masukiye,not especially big but crams a lot in from the expected fruit and vegetables from the farms nearby and fresh cheeses etc. to spices,household bits and pieces and to my amazement,fish.

Directions: From the Sapanca toll booths turn left and drive 3-4 km,it's in the centre of town just past the crossroads.

Summer walks and winter fun in Kartepe

One of the nearest skiing resorts to Istanbul, this area has great summer views and walks with the bonus of winter snow.I think one of the higher elevations in Turkey and only between 1 1/2 and 2 hours from Istanbul with Sapanca just before you climb up with it's peaceful lakeside.

Directions: Take the turn off for Sapanca and when you pass through the toll gates turn left not right for Sapanca.Drive straight until you reach the crossroads at Masukiye and turn almost back on yourself to the left.From here it's well signposted.
