Toronto, Canada

It's all about the driving. If you don't have a story to tell about Toronto's traffic, you haven't fully experienced the city. Around Toronto, the water-cooler talk is about the traffic; the congestion, accidents, how long it took to get to work, how long it took to get home. Everyone has a story, everyday.

To help you get ready for Toronto, the following quiz will give you a feeling for how well your driving skills will be received in Toronto.

You are driving on a freeway and realize that you are about to pass your exit ramp. You should:
(A) Carry on to the next exit so that you can safely exit the freeway and make your way to your destination.
(B) Break violently and swerve off on your exit.
(C) Accelerate wildly and blast off on your exit.
(D) Pass your exit and then listen to your GPS navigation system try to encourage you to make an illegal U-turn for the next half hour.

You can see far ahead that your lane is blocked or terminates and merges with the rest of the road. You should:
(A) Merge to an adjoining lane at your earliest convenience when it is safe to do so.
(B) Carry on to the very end on your lane and then squeeze into the adjoining lane.
(C) Carry on past the end of your lane and then barge into the adjoining lane.
(D) Come to a complete stop and then signal for a lane change hoping that some polite driver will stop and let you into their lane.
When waiting for a red light to turn green, you should:
(A) Keep your foot on the brake until the light turns green.
(B) Ease forward so that you'll be the first through the intersection when the light turns green.
(C) Ease through the intersection in any case.
(D) Use the opportunity to make a phone call, rummage through the glove box, take a drink of coffee or any other activity that doesn't involve looking at the stop light.

Slow moving traffic on a three lane freeway should drive in:
(A) The right most lane.
(B) The center lane.
(C) The left most lane.
(D) Whichever lane seems to have the most traffic.

Lanes designated with a Diamond symbol during rush hours are intended for:
(A) Vehicles containing three or more persons.
(B) Vehicles that have EVER held three or more persons.
(C) Vehicles that can hold three or more persons.
(D) Reminding boyfriends that diamonds are a girl's best friend.
Speeding cars seem to travel in packs. Therefore, if you are passed by a speeding car you should:
(A) Watch for other speeders to avoid having an accident.
(B) Allow a decent interval of time to go by to allow the speeders to spring any speed traps before accelerating to join the pack.
(C) Quickly tuck in behind the first speeder before someone else so as to make use his slipstream.
(D) Check to see if any of the cars are Volkswagen so that you can score a "Punch Buggy".

Lane changes increase the risk of accidents. Therefore:
(A) You should always perform a shoulder check before making a lane check to ensure that there are no vehicles in your blind spot.
(B) Once you find a lane you like, you should get as close to the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of you and try to make them go faster.
(C) Don't bother to signal for a lane change because the drain of electricity for the signal light might hinder the performance of the stereo.
(D) Only change lanes when absolutely necessary... or if you feel like it.

Please refer to the travelogue to determine your scoring.

Very useful tips and great photos of Toronto! I had a laugh at your driving tips, especially because I was able to avoid any mishaps on my most recent trip - even avoided traffic jams! My brief tour of downtown made me want to linger longer next time.
