Scheveningen Travel Guide: 250 reviews and 800 photos

Scheveningen is a beach resort suburb of The Hague. I managed to find an apartment overlooking the beach and lived there for three years while an expatriate in The Netherlands. The stores of the Palace Promenade provided convenient shopping and the restaurants and bars provided convenient entertainment. The view of the pier and the North Sea provided a sense of openness unmatched by the claustrophobic streets behind the dunes. Trams, buses, taxis all invest the Kurhaus, so getting to other parts of town was quick and easy. The only downside I ever felt was on weekends when I wanted to visit other cities, the train stations were half an hour away. Still, it was a small price to pay for the beauty of the beach.

Scheveningen is busiest on the weekend with Sunday’s being a particularly congested day. As befits a resort, there are special events held throughout the year to attract even more visitors:

Jan 1: Nieuwjaarsduik (New Year’s Dive) a brisk winter swim on New Year's Day.

May: Sand Sculpture competition

May/June: Vlaggetjesdag at the harbor marks the opening of the herring season.

June: Air Show with stunt flying demonstrations

July: Fireworks on Fridays at the Pier at 11pm

August: The International Fireworks Festival competition

September: The Nationale-Nederlanden Kite Festival

October: International Windsurfing Event

October/November: International Beach Motorcycle Races

one of my favorite placers in Netherlands. I hope those figures will be returned after beach renovation, in front of the Sea museum. I missed them this summer
