Smell that? It's Seattle! Welcome to Seattle, located in the Pacific Northwest state of Washington. You can't get any more eclectic then in Seattle. It's so hard to believe. When I first heard that would be my home port of call for the next 3 months, I was like....crap! I pictured drizzly weather, depressing days and homeless people. Well, I was proved wrong (well, the latter turned out to be true after all, there's lots of homeless). Seattle offers so much.
Take a stroll along Pike Place Market and see if you can see the famous "flying fish" located in the market itself. Help yourself to the many many many restaurants and delis and bakeries lining the streets. Or go to the must-go-to-attraction, the Space Needle. It's so hard to believe I finally got the chance to go up it. Like a typical gringo, I even bought an overpriced T-shirt to commemorate this.
If you're by the pier, even better. Everything is right close to downtown. I never walked too far, and even if I did, I relied on my friend Jeff as a tour guide (he lived there for a while and he loved it too). He showed me even more of Seattle as well. If you know someone in a place, all the more better!
I was never bored when I was there. I got to explore a lot of the streets and see it all. There's way more then what I'm describing. Check it out if you can! |
| | Was that a halibut?! Maybe, maybe not. In Seattle, nothing is too strange or out of the ordinary. It's a very diverse city. Where else can you see "Flying Fish"? My friend Jeff took me to go see how they do it. It's all such an organized affair, prepare the fish for throwing, yell out a countdown, the pass and pass. Very interesting stuff. |
| Qwest or Safeco-I forgot what stadium this was |
| | You're never too far..... ....from all the cool stuff in Seattle. No subways or complicated streets here ala New York. Either a taxi ride or a walkaround will get you far. Unless you want to see stuff on the outskirts of course.
This definitely wasn't the town I pictured in mind, the town where Kurt Cobain traveled around in, going to punk shows and also jammed out in. The town where the first Starbucks was founded. It's a city among cities. And one of the great things about the Pacific Northwest. |

| Pros: | "So much to see and do and eat" | | Cons: | "So little money to spend with" | | In A Nutshell: | "Definitely not the town I imagined, it's so much more!" |
