SF Streets: More crooked than Lombard? Oh yes...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Check out Vermont street between 20th and 21st. Here you'll find an even more crooked street than Lombard. It's alot steeper and sharper than Lombard and has 6 hairpin turns. It's hidden and a bit hard to find but you'll sure have the fun of getting just as dizzy without the crowds.

    I'll a picture soon

NORTH BEACH: Wild Parrots of SF (cherry headed conures)
  • Tip Rating:
  • These are just a couple of parrots that live wild here in the city. Most of them are escapees from when they were transported from a south american country to some pet store here. Or they escaped from their owners and have made it out on their own in the wild. They fly around downdown . This picture was taken near the Embarcadero.
They hang out really high up in the trees so it was hard to take a clear picture of them.

If you want to learn more about more of these birds there is a wonderful documentary called 'The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill'

Off The Beaten Path: Bay to Breakers

  • San Francisco - Run with a whole bunch of Elvis'
  • Run with a whole bunch of Elvis'

  • This is actually a legit race that spans 7.46 miles from the Bay to the Ocean (breakers). Some folks run it seriously for the cash prize of $7000. The Kenyans win almost every year. I even heard that some people have run it in preperation for the Olympics.

But it's also one big party where 100's of thousands of people gather to run (but mostly walk) and get drunk and dress up in stupid costumes (or run naked through the streets). So if you're ever in town around May check it out. It's fun and funny!!!

    Beaches / Pacific Coast: Waterfalls
  • Tip Rating:
  • These woods just past the GG bridge and north of the city are enchanting and are a world away from the rat race that is city life.

I'm glad to learn that San Francisco is still a very thriving and lively place. Thanks for including the Fillmore! Your tips bring back nice memories of the years I spent in Berkeley -- with frequent trips over the bridge to San Francisco.
