The perfect place for some serious R&R!

by sunshinejo - last update: Oct 17, 2005

A beach on Nacula Island, the Yasawa Group
I arrived in Fiji after spending a month rushing around New Zealand, wearing myself out trying to see all there is to see and do all there is to do! Needless to say, after that I was in serious need of some down time, and Fiji fit the bill perfectly!

My days in Fiji pretty much consisted of relaxing on the beach or in a hammock in the shade, and taking occasional dips in the sea to cool down! I also did a lot of snorkelling and even tried my hand at scuba diving! I found the Fijian people were among the friendliest people I've ever come across. Without exception, everyone I met was incredibly warm, cheerful and welcoming, and I found this made my stay even more enjoyable.
While I was here, I got the impression that Fiji is divided between the "backpacker resorts" and the more up-market resorts - the kind you see in holiday brochures. During the 2 weeks I spent here I moved around between various of the "backpacker resorts", which are nice enough, but much cheaper and certainly not luxorious! Because of this, most of my tips on Fiji are based around this style of travel, so it's probably worth bearing this in mind when reading them.

Pros:"Beautiful, exceptionally friendly locals"
Cons:"Not much to do here when it rains!"
