Hello! And welcome to my page. My name is Jo and I'm a 24 year old British girl, born and raised in the beautiful county of Cornwall. I'm very lucky in that travelling, in one way or another, has always been a part of my life. As far back as I can remember my family always took regular holidays. Initially we always went camping in France, taking the car over on the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff. However, as my sister and I got older our holidays became more varied, including trips to South Africa and Canada as well as package holidays to Portugal, the Canary Islands and Greece. You'll find very little, if anything, about these holidays in my pages, as my memory of them is limited and I don't feel I'm able to offer either detailed or accurate and up-to-date information on them.
The only exception to this rule is France. The reason being that at the age of nine I was fortunate enough to take part in a six-month exchange to the town of Niort. In my France travel page I try to offer an in-sight into the French way of life, with a large emphasis on local customs. However, you won't find many tips on things to do, restaurants or accomodation etc, as I simply can't remember that kind of detail about my stay there. I also apologise for the lack of photos on this page, my excuse being that it was before the days of digital cameras and I don't have a scanner to put my photos into digital format! (My France page is still under construction, so please be patient and come back soon!)
From the age of 16 I started to grow increasingly restless and longed for the opportunity to travel. This opportunity first presented itself in June 2001 when my A'Level exams were over, shortly before my 18th birthday. I spent that summer working and living on the Greek island of Rhodes, and from there my desire to see the world grew and grew at an alarming rate!
These days travelling is a major part of my life. Although I love the freedom of extended trips and life on the road, this isn't always financially possible. So I try to supplement these trips with shorter getaways to European destinations. On top of this I also managed to land myself a wonderful job running a hotel in the French Alps during the winter months. |

| | RTW Trip Intinerary: London - Jo'burg - Singapore (overland to) Phuket - Ho Chi Minh City - Perth (overland to) Sydney - Christchurch (overland to) Auckland - Fiji - Rarotonga - Tahiti - LA (overland to) NYC - London. It's a pretty standard route I guess, but I was thrilled when I found the ticket as it covered so many of the destinations I was eager to visit. Needless to say I had an amazing time and was devastated when my money ran out and I had to return to the UK to work. |
My Favourite Places Many people have asked me which are my favourite places I've visited, and it's impossible to give a straight answer as I've liked so many places and for very different reasons. Among my favourite places were: (in order visited) * South Africa - This was the first country I visited on my rtw trip, which obviously made it extra exciting for me. But on top of this I found S.A. to be such a diverse and fascinating country I just couldn't help but love it. * Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia - This is your typical desert island, with beautiful beaches, palm trees, blue seas and super friendly locals. This was a rest stop for me and I loved being here. * Perth, Western Australia - I think Perth is an absolutely stunning city, it's so beautiful, the weather was perfect, and again everybody here was very warm, friendly and welcoming. If it wasn't so cut off from the rest of the world I would love to live here. * South Island, NZ - Again, this is yet another incredibly beautiful part of the world, where I also received many warm welcomes. As I travelled around the island I found my breath was taken away by the scenery on a daily basis. *The Yasawa Islands, Fiji - OK, I admit it, I'm a sucker for beautiful beaches! After NZ I was in serious need for some R&R, and this was just the ticket! Beaches, palm trees, hammocks, crystal clear waters, coral reefs, great food... who wouldn't love it? * San Francisco - This is the only place I've ever visited that was pretty much as I imagined it to be, and I knew even before I arrived that I would like it here. * Venice - How anybody could not love this city I'll never know. It's the most picturesque city I've ever seen, it's very easy on the eye and I could quite happily spend days here just wandering around getting lost! * Mozambique - I really wish I'd had more time to explore Mozambique further, it's such a beautiful country and, compared to South Africa, makes for a much more interesting travel experience. | | | The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco |
