  • Anyone who has ever seen "Gladiator" can't wait to go to the Coliseum. The first time I was in Rome we didn't go inside, but the second time I went ahead & paid for it. It's pretty cool to see where the animals were transported under the floor of the Coliseum which is now revealed.

  • This is one that our tour guide took us to. He said it's his favorite fountain in Rome. We really liked his description of it. He said the fish are supposed to be dolphins because back then they didn't know what dolphins really looked like. Since dolphins are very fast fish, they respresent quickness. The turtles obviously represent slowness. So this fountain symbolizes balance of the man trying to slow down the dolphin & hurry along the turtle.

  • Another amazing thing to see in Rome is the Pantheon. It was build thousands of years ago, and is amazingly still standing. It was originally built as a pagan temple, but is now one of the many Catholic churches in Rome.

  • The Forum is where the ancient civilizations of Rome existed. All of the business was taken care of in this area. You can walk through the forum for free, and if you're lucky you'll find a free English speaking tour. They will accept tips at the end.

  • This is a great area for people watching. It is always very crowded in this area, so it's tough to get a good picture of it all. We were lucky to be there in the spring time when they've got the flowers out on the steps.

  • This picture was taken from the Bridge of Angels near Castel Sant'Angelo. I think it's one of the best pictures I've ever taken. You can see the Vatican from here...and obviously the Tiber River. I've heard the Tiber River is probaby the dirtiest water because it was used to dump the dead animal carcuses after the gladiators killed them.

  • It's great if you can get to the Vatican on a Wednesday because the Pope usually comes out to give a speech that morning. If you take a walking tour with Romeing Tours they have a group that goes to the Vatican on Wednesdays. They'll tell you exactly where to stand to get a great picture of the Pope up close, too, because before he gives his speech he rides around the crowd. I highly recommend their tours.

  • You can get this great view of St. Peter's Square if you climb to the top of St. Peter's Basilica. It's a difficult walk since the roof is a dome, so once you get closer to the top you have to bend your body towards the middle & continue to climb the steps. It's all worth it in the end when you can see out from the top of St. Peter's Basilica.
