A great day to be in Amsterdam, the 30th of april. It's the birthday of the queen (well actually of her mum) and everybody gets on the streets, selling all kind of stuff, making music, drinking beers, the bars can put taps on the streets and they are podiums all around town with music and stuff. People wear crazy orange clothing and everybody's happy ;) If you don't like crowds though avoid Queensday!

Walking through Amsterdam is nice (when it's not raining!), the cutest area I think is the Jordaan, with it's small shops and canals and bridges (around 1280 bridges in A'dam) and the "dollhouses". For the ones interested there is also the possibility to see a houseboat from the inside in the: It's located on the Prinsengracht opposite to housenumber 296. Opening times: March - October: tuesday through Sunday 11 am - 5 pm. November - February: Friday-Saturday-Sunday 11 am - 5 pm. The four main city center canals are Prinsengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Singel. I would also recommend a boat tour, there are a lot of those, plenty of possibilities and it's a nice way to see Amsterdam from the water instead of from the 'land'.
