Hornsby Shire

When you get into Hornsby, you are greeted by the big sign boards which say Welcome to the Shire of Hornsby. It is really like a shire with lush bushland all around. It is a very green area with gum trees, screeching gangs of cockatoos, laughing kookaburras hiding amidst the gum trees, galahs by the dozens feeding on garden grounds and a cacophony of lorikeets by the thousands.

Hornsby is known to be the gateway to the Hawkesbury. The main area of Hornsby is the centre of the eastern section of the region.

Shopping in Hornsby

The central shopping mall is Westfields along the Pacific Highway before entering the main Hornsby township.

Other local shops are scattered along the Pacific Highway, but the mall is the main highlight with all the key retailers - David Jones, Myers, Target, Kmart, Borders, Aldi, Woolworths and Coles. All the smaller chains and brands like Esprit, Ralph Lauren, Crabtree & Evelyn, Oroton, Sportsgirl, Millers, etc are also found in the mall, so you can imagine how large this mall is.

Don't get lost as there are two separate wings connected by a bridge.

The delightful thing about this mall is that it is centrally located near the library, train station, local daily shops and cafes and caters to all segments of the market place.

Hornsby- The Famous Water Sculpture

The interesting thing about the shopping mall outside Westfields Hornsby (known as Hunter St Mall) is that it features a unique giant moving bronze sculpture, known as the Hornsby Water Sculpture.

The mechanical artwork is amazingly activated entirely by water. On a warm summers day, it is lovely to stroll and sit alongside the sculpture, though many a windy day, passers by get wet with the spray of waters carried by the breeze.

Well, not the only Hornsby VT page, but the best. Gr8 work on these tips, but please tell me more about all the cafes as I often pick my mum up at the station & could do with good places for coffee while I'm waiting.
