Mandalay Bay is near one end of the strip (i call it the top end, next to the Luxor). It is one of my preferred places to stay. The rooms are large and tastefully fitted out. Not the cheapest, but is very comfortable. The complex has some great restaurants - Aureole (but book for this place), 3995, Red Square are a few and a great sushi bar. Rum Jungle is a good place to meet for a drink and a night out. The pool area is enjoyable - apart from the crowds on the weekend (but that is Vegas). The Hotel is also part of this complex, but as yet, i have not stayed there

The Luxor has been on the strip for at least 10 years (probably quite a bit longer). It is in the shape of a pyramid, but due to the expansion of the hotel, has two buildings to the side which are hotel rooms. As a hotel it is so, so. However, i strongly recommend that if you stay there, ask for a room in one of the towers (as opposed to the pyramid - which can be a little noisy). The rooms are fairly large, and not too tired. Price is a little below average for the strip.'However, as with all hotels on the strip - prices vary each night!
Unique Qualities: Avoid the pryamid rooms, unless you are a heavy sleeper. A good medium priced place to stay

Green Valley Ranch is one of the Station Casino properties. It is known as a local casino, that is one where mostly locals visit. It is a fair way off the strip - about a $20 taxi ride, however, it is a lovely casino and hotel complex and well worth making the trip to stay there for a few nights or longer. It is the Vegas style hotel, but smaller in size and the service is much more personal, and the level of service is similar to staying in the Intercontinental, Oriental, or any other 5 star hotel.
Unique Qualities: THe Spa is well worth a visit. Although the treatments are not cheap, the atmosphere creates a truely relaxing experience (be warned though - when paying for a spa treatment, they will automatically add on a 20% tip - which leaves one pondering about whether a tip is really discretionary or not in this country!). the Pool complex is also lovely with a pool, beach, cabanas and huge outdoor beds to lounge on. Not being a gambler, i am not sure about the gaming tables, but they have a nice selection, and it is not as frantic as the casinos on the strip.

A fair way off the strip (as is Green Valley), but well worth it if you are looking for a place to relax - it hasa great spa and close to a number of golf courses. Big rooms, big bathrooms - as one comes to expect from LV hotels, but all tastefully done. We used it as a conference centre, which was very good. There is a fantastic Gym and Spa where one can escape and relax. A lovely place to stay if you are not fussed about being a fair bit away from the Strip.
Unique Qualities: Close to Golf Courses - we played at one - fantastic. Great Spa

One of the "Older" hotels on the strip (relatively that is), a little tired on the inside, but still nice, clean and pleasant to stay in.

The Four Seasons Hotel is situated in the Mandalay Casino and Hotel, however, has its own entrance and exclusive floors near the top of the building. The Hotel is a lovely place to stay, one one could easily forget that they are on the strip. It is a pleasant change to be able to check into a hotel without having to navigate through a casino floor and stand in some long line. As the hotel is relatively small, crowds are not a problem. The rooms are extremely comfortable, and elegantly fitted out.
Unique Qualities: Great Spa and good Gym.
