The City That Never Sleeps

The Bright Lights of Times Square
New York, New York...so much to see, smell, eat, buy, and hear. A true melting pot!

My first recollection of taking a trip into the city is as a child, when we would go to Macy's in Herald Square every December to see Santa and have lunch. If we had a little extra money, we would also see the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.

NYC hasn't changed much since those days many years ago. I have explored the Metropolitan Museum of Art, browsed the second-hand shops and flea markets in the Village, taken the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty, eaten in Little Italy, lit candles at St. Patrick's Cathedral, enjoyed the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3, worried that my elevator wouldn't quite make it to the top of the Empire State Building as it shimmied and shook on its ascent, ogled the window displays at Saks and Bloomingdales, seen spectacular Broadway shows, and managed to eat at Nobu in Tribeca without a reservation (just once!).

My most surreal memory is that of Times Square on New Year's Eve, sitting on a Boston College student's shoulders that I met in the crowd to take a photo of the sea of people, watching Rudy Giuliani start the ball drop at 11:59, and staring in wonder at the sea of confetti that fell from the sky at midnight.

My most bittersweet memory is recalling a spectacular view...atop the World Trade Center...some 10 years ago.

There is something to discover any time of the year in NYC. So, put on your walking shoes, grab a map, and take a bite of the Big Apple!
