Summer In Winter

by doodybee - last update: Feb 13, 2008

Barcelona

We were in Barcelona 14th - 18th January and it was like summertime for us as we left the UK in downpour that apparently lasted all week - it was still raining when we arrived back into Doncaster Airport and for two pins i would have gladly turned around and gone back to Barcelona

Aw well - back to reality

Hotel Accommodation & Eating

Barcelona was great - we stayed at the hotel Comercio just off La Ramblas - which was really handy for everything - we got a good rate from Alpharooms for the hotel. It was functional to say the least but as we didn't spend much time there it served its purpose

On the first night - because of the lateness of our arrival we ate at the Kentucky Fried Chicken place just up the road - as we knew what we would get and it would be edible - after that i refused to eat there as i like to try different things

We found a lovely little cafe doing very cheap sandwiches and plates of salad with such things as tuna, chicken etc - we paid 13euros for 2 x meals and drinks - cannot for the life of me think of the name of the place but we think it was a student haunt because of the prices and the clientele in there - it was up a side street nearly opposite where the lobsteri s on the beachfront ( if thats any help) - we also ate at an indian restuarant ( little on the dear side compard to other places we ate) on the front near the lobster and at an all you can eat salad bar which we found on the back street near the hotel

All in all it was much cheaper to eat and drink here than in Paris- we paid 4.50euros for a large San Miguel in the international bar in La Ramblas as opposed to 14.5euros for a large Kronenburg in Paris last year

Sightseeing

We walked across to the Marina area and spent time in the Aquarium and the shopping centre there and walked to the zoo.

We got the tourist bus around the City and spent time at the Sagada Familia and the Nou Camp and at Placa Cataluyna

We both agree it is a place we could live and will be heading back although probably not at the same time of year

I saw the Woody Allen film "Vicky Cristine Barcelona" recently and was captivated by the city scenes. Been visiting lots of VT Barcelona pages. I enjoyed my stop to see yours. :)
