"Just Starting Out" doodybee's Profile

This is me with some of my workmates

I work in a Specialist welding firm as Administrator- this is me with a couple of the guys

The big yellow tubes are Gas Pipeline sections which come to us for weld procedures before being transported to site

I believe these particular sections are now under the lovely Welsh Countryside near Felindre Swansea

The New Interchange Barnsley

This is our new station interchange

Its horrible- my niece always says " Welcome to Ballymory" (the children's programme) as s he passes

That's progress for you

The way in

This is our escape route to the world - our glorious M1

Doesn't look like many are escaping here though

Joseph Locke

This is a statue of a local benefactor who had a whole park named after him

" Locke Park"

Scene of many occasions over the years and home to this years BON-FEST which is a showcase for new bands and singers to show what they can do

Town Hall

This is our local Town Hall

Home to our local council and councillors

Also the only local venue for civil marriages until the law changed recently

Open Spaces around Town

Its hard to believe even for me- that within 5 minutes or so in most directions out of Barnsley we are in green open space

This is Worsbrough Mill which is along side the reservoir and within walking distance of Barnsley College's working farm - if you go there do not ask why all female rabbits are pregnant - you may be asked to leave-- it was brought up as a welfare issue at some point by our local RSPCA group who were fundraising down there and have since been advised they are not welcome back

More Around and about

Cawthorne is also a few minutes away from town and the Park there played host to HM Queen Elizabeth in 1977 during her Jubilee tour - yes i was there - press ganged by school - i wouldn't make the trip these days -for that reason anyway.

Cawthorne is also home to Cannon Hall Museun ( used to be the "Big House") - a garden centre, Cannon Hall open farm and shop- and the now famous Maize Maze ( the latter two being diversification needed to keep the farms attached to them viable-

The new Dearne Valley Parkway which was put in to link all the outlying towns to the new jobs -hub - the call centres at Manvers also leads to the RSPB reserve at Broomhill

There are other green areas too - like Newmillerdam near Wakefield which was another favourite haunt of our family when we were children - funnily enough - aged about 5yrs this place always seemed to take ages to get to
( hah -again its about 5 - 10 minutes in the car )

My favourite Mutt

This is Diaz - a Doberman/Rottweiler Cross my son rescued from the local stray kennel when he lived with a girlfriend who subsequently left him and he came home - brought the dog - who promptly adopted me as her new mum and has never left my side since - not long ago she heard a commotion outside our door and i was just about to let her out when one of the men fighting moved and i saw POLICE emblazoned on his back - so i left them to it and shut the door - apparently the other man had run from a stolen car and the policeman had caught him right up against mine in the street and he was trying to resist arrest - he wasn't getting very far though as the policeman had the upperhand - for once - Anyway the dog absolutely adores me and she was only doing her job - I wouldn't have liked to try and explain why a bobby had got shredded trousers which is what would have happened if i hadn't been nosey and look around the door before releasing her - HaHa (oops Shouldn't laugh) - she's as daft as a brush with anyone i let in the house though and barks at them when they are leaving
