Bienvenue à Marseille! Yippee After many years of longing to go visit the South of France, I finally did on the 7th May 2008 and stayed for 5 days. The reason for which I quickly bought my ticket was that it was what we call a 'pont weekend' in France. this means 'bridge weekend' when the French like to extend their weekend by taking off the Friday, when the Thursday is a national holiday. So then you get a 4 day weekend. That weekend was even more special because the Monday 12th May was also Penecost Sunday ( a national holiday in France too) so most people got a 5 day weekend.
Me being me, trying to be as French as possible (working very little and holidaying a lot), had Wednesday off too and decided to spend a luxiourious 5 days with a long lost friend in Marseille.
I can tell you that the South of France definitely lived up to my expectation... and I will certainly be going back for more. |
