An indian wedding In march 2007, I spent 5 days in Mumbai to attend the wedding of my best friend. It was my first trip to Asia and I was very excited and in anticipation of what I would come across when I got there. Nothing could have prepared me for the amazing cultural experience I had. I absolutely loved the city of Mumbai and was disappointed that I didn't get to travel more. On arriving at the airport, I had flashbacks of landing at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos. I still think both Lagos and Mumbai are very similar in the lay out, the street scene and the way of life. Extremely overpopulated, Mumbai isn't a place you go to for tranquility and peace of mind. If you love people, then you won't have a problem with Mumbai because they are everywhere. One thing that I really appreciated about India, was that hospitality is the foremost of their culture and thus customer service is at its best. If you stay in a 3 star hotel, you can still expect 5 star service as we received. It's also very good to be someone who likes to try things, because the sights and smells all around the city will intrigue your taste buds and your eyes can feast on the many colours. Oh wow I can't wait to return! |

Henna painting for the women and girls The night before the wedding, all the female guests, close family and friends of the bride and groom went to the groom's place to get henna painting done. It took about an hour to have all the Henna put on to my hands on both sides. I had to stay very still to prevent it from smudging. Of course I couldn't resist picking off the dry bits, but they say the longer you leave it without picking, the longer the patterns will remain without fading. |
