| getting the best shot of sunset at ankgor wat |
I stayed in Siem Reap for 2 days and visited Angkot Wat for just 1 day. I admire those that get up dark 'o clock to see the temples at sunrise but I just couldn't do it. The size of Angkor Wat will blow you away and so will amount of kids trying to sell you books/postcards/drinks/souvenirs . Don't get me wrong it is an awesome place and a must see in Cambodia (or rather South East Asia) but you and a hundred thousand other people will be there.
The picture was taken by a friend of mine at sunset just shows you how many people are there and wanna get the best shot of the sunset.
I spent the next day visiting Aki Ra's Landmine Museum, now this is definately worth a visit. We were shown around by Hak and 18 year old who lost his leg (and brother and sister) when he stood on a land mine. The thing that struck me was this young lads enthusiam for life and learning. If you go you will not be able to leave without buying something and/or making a generous donation.
There are still 6 million mines in Cambodia!! .
On a less serious note we had a great meal at a traditional restaurant in town, khmer kitchen it's down a back street and always really busy, you'll spot it!!
A good couple of bars in town too, Red Piano (famous because Lara Croft drank there), Angkor What? (great play on words) and Laundry (we bumped into Hak here enjoying a night out with the volunteers from the museum). |
