40 Shades of Green.....

by GCoop - last update: Sep 22, 2005

Yes, it is green there!

Old station house, Croom, Co. Limerick
I was always hell bent for leather on going to Germany for my first overseas trip. That was until one Sunday night in 1997 when I saw Riverdance on the television for the first time. After that I was all about Ireland. It took me 3 years to get there, but since then, I have been 4 times. It is well worth it!
I have met amazing people that I am still friends with after all these years...I still, ALWAYS, recommend Ireland as a first trip to anyone who hasn't travelled overseas for their first time. It is hard to have a "bad" trip I think in Ireland, and you always want your first trip to be the most memorable.....
I will always have fond memories of Ireland and those who I met there!
Bridge over the Maigue. "Downtown" Croom.

Quiet little Croom...

Croom is about 22 km south of Limerick in Co. Limerick. I t is a small little village known for its two century old wollen mill that was once powered by the Maigue River, seen here. It has 3 pubs, 2 churches, a post office, gas station, bank, hospital, police station, car dealership, grocery store, and woman's clothiers, primary and secondary school, etc. The village itself and the surrounding countryside are beautiful and scenic. Croom is very peaceful. Believe me if you are not fom Croom, people will notice, and quickly. You, or the family that is hosting you, will be the talk of the town!
Country stream in the heart of Doolin.

The Burren

The Burren is in Co. Clare. A rugged, mostly treeless area in the west of Ireland. It is amazingly serene there! In some areas Gaelic ( Irish ) is still spoken....
Clare is also known for its traditional Irish music. Go to Doolin, near Galway Bay, in late Feb. for the Micho Russell Festival (fleadah and ceili).Book early as this an inernationally known festival, and all accomondation will be booked.

Pros:"Green, great Guinness!, good food, friendly people, excellent music!"
Cons:"Can't really think of one....."
In A Nutshell:"Despite popular belief, not everyone there is raging alcoholic and lush!"
