13 hours in Amsterdam!!!!

by GCoop - last update: Mar 3, 2008

Just out for a stroll along the canal......

Amsterdam, a quaint little city ....

I had a 13 hour layover in Amsterdam en route to Israel...I did try to cram as much as I could into that time frame, and I think I was able too... You would be surprised what you could and see in that time frame.
The architecture was great there, all the tall narrow buildings lined the canals and rough city streets. I saw some amazing little antique stores and great cafes along the main thoroughfares.
City street near the Anne Frank House.

Beautiful city streets, but they are all one way!

Most of the streets are narrow and one way. I think that it is best to explore it one foot, or, like the Dutch do, by bike....
Sex shops abound in the red light district, and well as the infamous" coffee houses". The smell of the MJ is in the air, but everyone seems comfortable with it.
What else about Amsterdam? The women are all amazingly beautiful, everything is written in, and everyone speaks excellet English, the food is delicious, and the service on KLM is perfect!!!! Please take KLM versus any American carrier, as the service on US flights SUCKS!
The Tulip Museum!

Houseboats.

I found the Tulip Museum on the way to Anne Frank house. Although I didn't go in, I do think that it would be a good place to go explore The Netherlands obsession with the flower.
While there, I did visit the two sex museums. the Marijuana Museum, The Van Gogh Museum, which by the way was phenomenal, and the Rijks Museum. All were worth the walk.

Pros:"You can pretty much see everything on foot!"
Cons:"None at all, oddly enough...."
In A Nutshell:"A great layover destination if you are on a time crunch!"
