Eyam Travel Guide: 44 reviews and 80 photos

I met my cousin Tere Longa for the first time when Carmeli, Stefan, Sylvia and I were invited by her to spend Easter in 2002 at her home in Derbyshire, (Peak District, England).

We had a really nice time with her family, in their 300 hundred yr old house located in an old lead mining town which looks like it hadn't changed in hundreds of years. Just across their house are lush green hills where I half expected to see Julie Andrews twirling her skirt around. It was gorgeous!

They were wonderful hosts and took us around this fascinating and historical place. First there were the plague cottages in Eyam which was infected by the Black Death in 1665. Then they took us to the Chatsworth House, touted as the UK's favorite country estate, and home of the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Here also, Mary, Queen of Scots stayed as a prisoner.
