Prague is a beautiful city with a lot to offer any tourist worth their salt. The architecture is second to none and there is plenty to see and do.
Although more expensive than probably anywhere else previously hidden beyond the Iron Curtain, it's still reasonable. The public transport is excellent, and there are plenty of affordable but really nice accommodation options. However there are a few pitfalls of holidaying in Prague which can take the veneer off its undoubted beauty.

The first of these is, ironically, tourists. The Old Town particularly is basically one long tourist shop with camera flashes, stag parties and elbowing people with large cameras! I went in July and I can safely say that although I would like to see Prague again, it will not be in peak season.

The second is traps for these tourists. Things like the souvenir shops are one thing, but when you pay to see an attraction, expecting a beautifully preserved piece of 'old Prague' and find just more shops (Golden Lane, Castle Complex) the constant commerciality begins to grate. Josefov is another rip-off, the admissions are hugely overpriced.

The upside to all this, of course, is that you are in the middle of a beautiful, comsopolitan city with fantastic architecture, nightlife and restaurants. The climate is good and it remains a must-go destination. But I'll go in October next time, and maybe then I'll see even more of the architecture that I missed first time round!
