What to say of Carcassone... Of course, my father and I came here during our tour of the Albigensian crusade historical sites, like most tourists do. Carcassone seemed a bit of an oddity, as it was so full of tourists, unlike Montségur, which actually had a ruined fortress and which was almost deserted of sightseers. Nevertheless, Carcassonne was a fun historic city that went to great pains to preserve the authentic and historic feel of her sights. Being 15, I had more than enough fun at the torture museum, where the wax dummies are used to provide demonstrations of the various techniques that were part and parcel of the Inquisition and mediaeval investigations. The rest of the city, banking a bit on its gruesome fame, played into the same vein, but it was equally as striking for its grand mediaeval architecture and delicious cuisine.
