Lublin:The Capital of Wojewodztwo Lubelskie This striking eastern city of Lublin has roughly 360,000 inhabitants. Growing up in the outskirts of town, for me Lublin was synonymous with big city living. However things back in the late 80s were much different. Right now Lublin is undergoing a massive transformation to expose themselves as a tourist destination; think Krakow except on a much smaller scale.
Many restaurants in the old part of town have signs/menus in both Polish and English; this was unheard of even a couple of years ago. Cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques congest the lively old town.
If you want to really experience Poland, and get away from the massive tourist hordes of Krakow and Warsaw, Lublin would be a great stop. The city is situated 180 km south east of Warsaw and a five and a half hour train ride from Krakow. Makes a great stop when traveling between the two major destinations! |

EllenH Sun Sep 9, 2007 22:50 UTC My gramdmother left lublin at the age of 16 with much family behind. Is there a way to find out if their descendants are still there. The name was Rapacz, common or uncommon? Nice page. | sihi Fri Mar 31, 2006 23:47 UTC Amazing page!! Old town of Lublin looks really unique, different from other cities:) Greetingz | RickinDutch Sat Feb 18, 2006 01:55 UTC I agree, Lubin is a quiet getaway compared to Warsaw. My father is from a small village outside of Zamosc. We went back in 90 to visit. |
