Although I only visited a small part of Morocco it is one of the most fascinating places I've ever been. Marrakech was a highlight with it's endless souks, winding little streets and of course the "Place Djemaa El Fnaa" at night. The smells of the food cooking on the open fires stay with me yet. When you get away from the town the kids are terrific and most people very friendly and helpful.
Please note : Marrakech now has it's own pages.
The ksars or forts have always fascinated me by the way they use colours and moulding around windows and doors to really enhance and gratify the eye.
These foul-smelling delightful animals that only spit, snarl or bite some of the time are in general quite placid beasts that can be found everywhere.

Great photos and tips, Paul!
As always, you had some pleasant and interesting encounters with the local people.
My one visit to Morocco was half a century ago. I put my bike into storage in Algeciras, took the ferry across to Tangiers and travelled by bus around the north of Morocco. In Tetouan a young man asked me if I spoke German. I said no, which was a lie, but he explained politely, in fluent German, that he didn’t want to sell me anything, he wanted to invite me for a cup of tea and have me read a letter to him that he had received from Germany. So we did that. It turned out that he could speak and understand several languages but was not literate in any of them.
Good story Don, that is one of the very real pleasures of travelling, the simple things. The offered cup of tea, the shy smile from a kid in a backstreet or the round eyes of a little girl somewhere that may never have seen white visitors before. Unfortunately I feel in todays world we are losing the simplicity of it all.
I wish I'd had the chance to see more of Morocco than Casablanca and Rabat. Your photos show me what I have missed. Thank you.
