"Ballybunion or Ballybunnion ???" Ballybunnion by pfsmalo

There is some controversy about this town, one "n" or two in the place name. VT does not recognise the one "n", but wherever I went in town the place names were always with one. Google hesitates between the versions and Wiki says one or the other but continues with only one. Doen't matter really as this was just a stopping place on the road north from Killarney. Quiet little town with the first ever statue of Bill Clinton, erected after a golfing visit. The castle built on cliffs above the beach by the Geraldines is from the 14th. c. It was acquired the the Bonyons in 1582 and this gave the town its name. There is only ruins of a wall left and one wonders with the winds that blow here, hos ir is still standing.
Now owned by the Kerry OPW, they have recently done some renovation work after a lightning strike rendered slabs of masonry and granite unstable.
