"Kells, Co. Kilkenny." Kells by pfsmalo

Kells Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 26 photos

A tiny village just 15 kms south of Kilkenny, sitting on the Kings river, that warrants a couple of hours of your time. The 12th c priory and its annexes can be visited with no problem, just be aware of the renovation that is always ongoing. A loop walk starts at the carpark by the old St. Kierans church, goes past the priory, along the river and comes to a couple of the old watermills. Crossing the 1715 bridge you come to village itself with a couple of warm looking pubs and the old horse trough naming 3-time Grand National winner Red Rum as being a Kells horse. Of course the loop can be started anywhere but at the carpark there is a map to give you a good idea of the way and distance.
