A tiny little fishing village down near the end of the Hook Head peninsula, has its own castle, built to watch over the harbour. Built by the Laffan family in the 15th c, the tower house had 4 floors. A futher two-storied house was added a hundred years later, and then a further annex that may have held salt. Unfortunately the castle is not open to visit. The harbour today has more pleasure craft than fishing vessels but there are still a few as the lobster and crabpots lying stacked behind walls attest.
