Notre Dame de Burgos - The Cathedral. - Burgos

Burgos was founded around 885 by the count of Castilla, Diego Rodriguez. With it's beautiful cathedral, and the river in its centre, the Las Huelgas monastery, there are quite a few things to attract the visitor. The Cid is probably the towns most well known resident, although born just 9 kms from Burgos, his remains are here in the cathedral.
During the Spanish civil war, between 1936 -39, the General Franco established his government here.
If the pilgrimage to Compostela is your thing the main route passes through here.

More terrific photos...loved the people pictures taken in the Plaza Mayor..and the photos of the interior of the Cartuja de Miraflores are quite stunning.
