"Sartène." Sartène by pfsmalo

Sartène Travel Guide: 0 reviews and 3 photos

In a superb mountainous setting, Sartène sits cosily in an amphitheatre of Monte Rossa facing the setting sun. Many old cobbled streets in the old walled town very rarely see the sun though. But if looking for a true Corsican atmosphere, mid true Corsicans it is here that you'll find it. On the main square just in front of the "Monument aux morts" and below the walls of the church is where you'll find the Sartenese in the evening. Here is also the main entrance to the old town. Founded by the Genoans in the early1500's, they didn't build the ramparts until around 1550. Not much of the ramparts exist now although you can find parts notably the "echaugette" or watchtower, just behind the post office on rue Nicolas Pietri.

A typical Sartène street full of ups and downs.
