Buddha's sanctuary made a lasting impression on me.
It is a beautiful well tended garden containing an awesome 3 metre tall statue of Buddha intricatly carved from a solid block of crystal. The statue stands in an eight-sided gazebo, surrounded by a mandala of great chunks of raw crystals of Amythest, Topaz and Quartz.
Another gazebo has Buddist artifacts on display and there is a
monk talking to those interested in listening.
There is a wonderful, tranquil feeling in the place.
Don't forget to take your shoes off before you go in.
A perect place for meditation.
Open 7:00-10:00 and 16:00-19:00
No photo sorry-it didn't feel right to even ask if it was O.K.

Silver earrings and fluorite angel.
Tourist markets full of delightful trinkets set among large shady trees.
Lots of pearls and other jewellry, paintings and local craftwork.
I bought these lovely sterling silver and paula shell earings and a beautiful tiny fluorite angel.
Look out for the veggie stall near the entrance that sells frozen mango slices in plastic bags-you eat them like an ice lolly (icy-pole, popsicle). Wonderful on a stinking hot day!

Hermit crab on the beach.
Go to Port beach and see the hermit crabs.
It's a rocky point to walk around, with rock pools to paddle in on a hot day.
The rocks are all colours between red white and black and many of them sparkle with quartz. There's lots of shells and coral to collect, and, most interesting of all, if you've not seen them before, are the hermit crabs.
One gave my poor husband quite a scare when he was helping me collect shells and one woke up in his hand.
The Wharf Restaurant right next to the jetty serves excellent fresh fish.

Foyer of the old Sun Cinema
The original old open air Sun Cinema still runs and has an interesting display of equipment and memorobilia in it's foyer. We went to the new Sun Cinema across the other side of the oval to sit in cool air-conditioned comfort on a stinking hot day.

My husband and I at cable beach
Cable Beach is awesome! Twenty two kilometres long. You can see the curve of the earth along the horizon. The tide receeds along way leaving pristine hard pale sand.
There are sand crabs, tropical shells and coral to find.
And if you hadn't already heard, watch a sunset from Cable Beach, there's bars and reastaurants set up to get the best views or you can take your 4wd down onto the beach.
