Greenland from the air

Groenlandia desde el aire

South-East coast - Costa sur-este
Actually I have not been in Greenland, but "above" Greenland in my way to the USA. It was a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Chicago. I was really lucky to be there in a sunny day and enjoy such a wonderful scenary, because the second time I did this trip I couldn't see anything.

Greenland is the biggest island in the world, if we consider Australia as a continent itself. It's mainly located at the North of the Arctic Circle and more than 80% of its surface is covered by ice. Nearly all the population live in the South-West coast, which has a milder climate, so the area I saw from the plane was almost unhinhabited.

Greenland became an integral part of the Kingdom of Denmark in 1953 and it was granted home rule by the Danish Parliament on 1979, so it's a self-governed Danish territory. It's geographically placed in America, but politically and culturally nearest to Europe.

You know, we flew over Greenland going from Newark to Beijing. Actually, through the North Pole, down over Russia, Mongolia and into Beijing. A polar route. Too high in the clouds to take pictures though.
