Una sabrosa parada en el camino

In my trip across the "Ruta de la Plata" (Silver trail), from Salamanca to Seville, I decided to have a quick stop in Guijuelo, a small village in the province of Salamanca.

This city is well know in all Spain, in spite of it's not specially beautiful at all. Guijuelo is one of the home place of the excellent "Iberic pork", the Spanish black pig, with tasty and healthy meat. Almost all the western part of the Iberian Peninsula have these exclusive kind of pigs, but there are just some cities recognized for their excellent product, as Jabugo in the Huelva province (Andalusia) and Guijuelo in Salamanca (Castile and León)

Guijuelo is a small city of less than 6000 inhabitants with not too much historic buildings. There are some nice buildings in the Main Square, with balconies and archades. The local coat-of-arms shows the remaining part of an ancient church, which can be seen at the entrance of the city.

It's placed in the South of the province of Salamanca, at 48 kilometres from the city on Salamanca, 173 kilometres from Valladolid, and 209 kilometres from Madrid.

It's in the A66, the Silver Trail, which links Seville with Salamanca.

Wow. Looks beautiful. Almost feel the El Torreon should not be rebuilt. Something about ruins that teach us about our futures. Hope you have a great birthday.
