This is one of the few Baroque buildings in town. It has two gates with lots of ornaments as Solomon columns (columns in zigzag) and high reliefs. It is a church and a monastery.

Este es uno de los pocos edificios barrocos de la ciudad. Tiene dos puertas muy con mucha decoración, como columnas salomónicas (en zigzag) y alto relieves. Es una iglesia y un monasterio.

Palace's tower - Torre del Palacio

This nice palace comes from the 16th century. Watch at its lovely decoration: women heads, falcons, etc. It was the palace of one of the main families from Úbeda, the Counts of Guadiana. You can see the palace's tower at my pictures, which was added up to the original building, at the 17th century.

Este bonito palacio es del siglo XVI. Fíjate en su decoración: cabezas de mujer, halcones, etc. Este fue el palacio de una de las principales familias de Úbeda, los Condes de Guadiana. En mis fotos puedes ver la torre del palacio, que fue añadida al edificio orginal en el siglo XVII.

Clock and bells - Reloj y campanas

This tower was part of the medieval walls (13th century) and the clock and its bells were added at the 16th century. It's placed at Plaza de Andalucia, which is a kind of social centre, where the people from Úbeda usually have meetings at social events.

Esta torre fue parte de las murallas medievales (siglo XIII) y el reloj y sus campanas se añadieron en el siglo XVI. Se encuentra en la Plaza de Andalucía, que es una especie de centro social de la ciudad. donde se reunen los ubetenses en diferentes acontecimientos.

Palacio Vela de los Cobos

This is a Renaissance palace, very simple and elegant. It was made in Castilian style, with a few ornaments, just at the upper gallery.

Este es un palacio renacentista, muy simple y elegante. Se construyó en estilo castellano, con poca decoración, sólo en la galería superior.

Renaissance façade - Fachada

This wonderful palace was commissioned by Juan Vázquez de Molina, Francisco de los Cobos' nephew, both of them Chamber Secretaries of the King Philip II. It is a typical Renaissance palace, and it's by far the best one in town. It was a monastery, a palace and, currently, the Town Hall. It has two façades: the main one, at Vázquez de Molina Square, is Renaissance and the other one, at Ayuntamiento Square, is of classicism style..

Este magnífico palaciofue encargado por Juan Vázquez de Molina, sobrino de Francisco de los Cobos, ambos Secratarios de Cámara del rey Felipe II. Es un palacio típicamente renacentista y es el mejor de la ciudad con diferencia. Fue un monasterio, un palacio y, actualmente, el ayuntamiento. Tiene dos fachadas: la principal, en la plaza Vázquez de Molina, renacentista, y la otra, en la plaza del Ayuntamiento, clasicista.

This church is the biggest in town, and the thirth one in the province of Jaén, after the Jaén's Cathedral and the Baeza's Cathedral. It was part of the Royal Fortress (Reales Alcázares) which doesn't exist any more. The building has a sober style and it's concentrating all its outdoor decoration at the main gate. It was built over a mosque in the 13th century, when the King Ferdinand III the Saint conquered the town.

Esta iglesia es la más grande de la ciudad y la tercera de la provincia de Jaén, tras la Catedrales de Jaén y Baeza. Fue parte de los Reales Alcázares que ya no existen. El edificio tiene un estilo sobrio, concentrando toda su decoración exterior en la puerta principal. Fue construido sobre una mezquita en el siglo XIII, cuando el rey Fernando III el Santo conquistó la ciudad.

Main façade - Fachada principal

Francisco de los Cobos, Chamber Secretary of the King Philip II, became a really powerful man. He commissioned the construction of a church devoted to the Savior of the World. This is the masterpiece of the Spanish Renaissance private religious architecture. The church has a original style, with a rounded tower (one of the few in Spain) and lots of sculptures either inside and outside, giving a irregular outline to the building.

Francisco de los Cobos, Secretario de Cámara del rey Felipe II devino un hombre muy poderoso. De esta manera encargó la construcción de una iglesia dedicada al Salvador del Mundo. Finalmente resultó ser la obra maestra de la arquitectura religiosa privada del renacimiento español. La iglesia tiene un estilo original, con una torre circular (una de las pocas en España) y muchas esculturas, tanto dentro como fuera, lo que le da un contorno irregular al conjunto.

Things To Do: Honest Old Men Hospital of the Saviour

It was a hospital built for "poor honest old men" without personal resources in 1392, being one of the oldest charity institutions in town. This building became smaller for the construction of the Saviour Sacred Chapel and its courtyard was renovated.

Hospital de los Honrados Viejos del Salvador.
Este fue un hospital construido para "los honrados hombres viejos pobres" en 1392, siendo una de las instituciones de caridad más antiguas de la ciudad. El edificio se quedó más pequeño con la construcción de la Sacra Capilla del Salvador y su patio fue renovado.
