Jerusalem has been the holiest city in Judaism and the spiritual center of the Jewish people since the 10th century BCE. It simultaneously contains a number of important ancient holy Christian sites, and is widely considered the third-holiest city in Islam. Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel with a population of around 700000 residents (Israeli citizens and Arab non-citizens). Modern Jerusalem is buildt around the Old City. The Arab population stretches from the Old City to the East, towards Ramallah in the North, and towards Bethlehem in the South. |
