Jerusalem - Israel's capital !

by WStat - last update: May 17, 2008

Holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims

The city has a history that goes back to the 4th millennium BCE, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Jerusalem has been the holiest city in Judaism and the spiritual center of the Jewish people since the 10th century BCE. It simultaneously contains a number of important ancient holy Christian sites, and is widely considered the third-holiest city in Islam.
Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel with a population of around 700000 residents (Israeli citizens and Arab non-citizens). Modern Jerusalem is buildt around the Old City. The Arab population stretches from the Old City to the East, towards Ramallah in the North, and towards Bethlehem in the South.

I miss Israel and Jerusalem in particular. I'd been there once and it was for a 3-month tour giving me the chance to explore other places like Bethlehem, Masada, and Tel-Aviv. I look forward to going back there. Thanks for sharing.
