The "sister villages" Beruwela and Bentota offer the classic package for beach lovers. A gorgeous stretch of honey-coloured sand ,backed by gently swaying palms and lush tropical greenery. Beruwela holidays offer also great swimming, made all that much better by the sheltered bay with its natural breakwater of islands just off shore.Yet in monsoon-times there are strong currents and special attention is mandatory ! When you travel to Bentota and Beruwela, there are several attractions apart from the beach. The roads leading into town are lined with shops, selling handicrafts and jewellery. There's a reasonable choice of bars and restaurants for the evenings. And if you fancy a change of scene, close by is the bustling little town of Aluthgama, famous for its lively fish market. There is a great number of convenient and recommended day-trips. You'll find some of them a few lines below !! |
