Mandalay is the second largest city in Burma with a population of 927,000. It was the last royal capital (1860–1885) of an independent Burmese Kingdom before annexation by the British in 1885,who took most of its fabulous treasures to Great Brittain, still proudly presented in the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 1042 Mandaly was occupied by the Japanese. After WW 2 it became capital of Burmas Mandalay Division.
