"I Love This Place" allthai's Profile

About me

I have been living in Thailand since 1989. I have traveled extensively throughout the Kingdom and wanted to share my wonderful experiences of Thailand with others.

I lived in a remote area of north Thailand at Wat Thaton temple in the town of Thaton on the Burmese border for more than 3 years. Altough I am Christian I taught English to Monks, novices, high school students, the Thai Army, local and tourist police. I also did hill tribe programs buying clothes for the children, medicines and blankets for the families. I paid the villagers to build a bamboo schoolhouse and paid a teacher to teach Thai at the school who could speak their language. I taught them how to dispose of waste properly, keep the children and village clean and to use spoons instead of their fingers when eating which was a big source of their health problems. I provided seeds and Logan and lychee fruit trees for planting.

This was fine until I left the temple then the school stopped and the health problems returned. I talked with the Abbot of the temple and he now has a school for the children at the temple. He has a nurse looking after the children and takes those to the clinics that have problems.

I stayed in many villages and met with the village headmen many times. I learned about their culture, way of life, religion, and do's and don'ts.

I am now retired with my beautiful Thai wife and still living in North Thailand. We are very active in helping orphaned children through our church here. I occasionally write travel articles for magazines and newspapers.

Now we both travel around Asia, mostly to Yunnan Province China, Mayalsia and Hong Kong.

If you have any questions about Thailand please let me know.

Home Videos of my wife and friends in Thailand

Here are a few videos in and around Chiang Mai. I will be taking more and posting them so come back to find new ones. These videos stream well using when I.E. and windows media player.

A few friends of ours had a holiday so we took them to Doi Inthanon National Park and stayed overnight. We visited waterfalls, hilltribe villages, a trout fish farm and Karen hill tribe coffee house where they grow and process their own coffee. Here is the Video. It was too cloudy and rainy on the summit to shoot video but we returned the next week to shoot more which is below.

Video at the summit of the highest mountain in Thailand.

Loi Krathong Festival in Mae Jo near Chiang Mai

I just had to post this as it was one of the most spectacular things I have every seen at the festival. Here in North Thailand the Loi Krathong Festival is much different than anywhere in the Kingdom. In the small town of Mae Jo north of Chiang Mai they started the festival on Saturday night by launching hot air balloons calld "Khom Loy". I went with my wife and friends and took this short video. We are not talking about a few Khom Loy but thousands upon thousands all at the same time. You got to see this.

Wat Prathat Doi Suthep Temple Chiang Mai.

Everyone who comes to Chiang Mai visits Doi Suthep Temple. This beautiful temple overlooks the city of Chiang Mai. Here is a video with my wife and her friend visiting the temple.

Chiang Dao Elephant Camp Video

We took this video with a couple of friends come by who wanted to visit an Elephant Camp. This is a good one.

Stay at a Hot Springs with private jacuzzi

My wife and I are always looking for unique places to stay. This place has private bungalows with private jacuzzi with water from the hot springs. We have made reservations with friends to stay there this Jan. when it is nice and cold in the evenings and we can use the fireplace.
This is a Video Tour of the accommodations.

Shopping is always fun in Chiang Mai.

Here is a place that most visitors to Chiang Mai never see. Cottons, Silks, Garments, Herbs, Spices, colorful flower arrangements and even Fireworks. Here is the Video with directions.

This video is our local Monday Market near our home. This will give you an idea how the locals shop.

A traditional khantoke Dinner in Chiang Mai.

When you come to Chiang Mai you should take in a Khantoke Dinner and show. This is not just for tourists as the Northern Thai people have been enjoying the Khantoke Dinner for centuries. Here is a short 6 minute video of the Khantoke dinner with my wife and friends.

Hope you enjoy the videos,
Randy and Ning
