  • Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Pack the very least possible. Bring ALL the swimwear you own and consider those your daily UNDER-wear (for easy removal of OVER-wear when coming across beaches).

SOCKS: Socks are a very big NEON SIGN pointing right at you that says; "TOURIST HERE!!!! TOURIST HERE!!!" --- maybe just bring 1 or 2 pairs of socks in case you realllllly think you need them (i can't imagine what for...)

There is little/no need for dresswear unless you really just want to get gussied up for some special occasion. Otherwise, there's been only one place thus far that has turned me away with regards to my attire: And.... **drum roll** That was BORDER'S BOOKS. Yes!! Border's Books kicked me out for not having shoes on.

Photo Equipment: Bring them all - but KEEP THEM SAFE. THEFT IS RAMPANT IN HAWAII. I'm so sorry to report this.... but it's true. We have a very bad drug problem out here...

I felt it's only fair to warn you of this.... :-(

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: You don't need much! I have actually lived in a tent for up to 6 months at a time - all I TRULY needed really was a tent, some blankets or sheets, and a pillow.

OFCOURSE if you are going to go on a hike somewhere far from "civilization" - bring LOTS of water (or those purification drops/tablets to clean stream water with)(i forget what they are called).

WORST CASE SCENARIO: If you are in the middle of nowhere and do not have fresh water supply or tablets or means of purifying the water: Find a place where the water is dripping right out through the rocks. The rocks serve as a filter for most bacteria.

This is not a guarantee - but it's always worked for me.

Miscellaneous: Hang loose! No need to make a fashion statement here!!! Heck, I go to the grocery store in the mornings sometimes without even brushing my hair.

Welcome to the land where you can really TRULY hang loose (except for on Oahu)

Good luck to Chickie Bondsman and his ongoing adventures. Keep him away from curious hunting dogs. Ciao. Bill. p.s. can I wear socks in my hiking boots? ; - )

Hi Jaana! Great story and great compassion :-) I think you and Chickie were meant to be together just as me and the kitties! Really good writing and I look forward to more! Greetings & Best Wishes from North Carolina! ;-)
