Sofia - The Capital of Bulgaria

Sofia, Parliament Square
Okay, it is time for some introducing, in case Sofia needs one.
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. It is our fourth capital - after Pliska, Preslav and Veliko Turnovo.
As a capital and a city with around 1,2 million inhabitants it has all pros and cons of a big city.
Recently I've read an article about Sofia and it was very positive one. So I'll start with cons not to have many disappointed.
First of all, it is not very clean.
Secondly, it is noisy.
Thirdly, parking problem: here everybody parks where he/she wants and usually on the pavement. So, the pedestrians walk on the streets.
Fourth, drivers: remember you are in Southern Europe. When you cross the street always look in both directions! I've got a friend who moved to the USA several years ago and every time he comes back I have to watch for him when he crosses the streets not to be hit by a car. Forget the rules and be careful all the time. For example, here the driver turning to the left has an advantage. (A 'rule' that makes me angry).
Fifth: Public transportation: very crowdy. See also my Transportation tip.
Enough for now.

Pros:
- There are many cultural events, theatres, cinemas, exhibitions, museums, etc.
- There are plenty of nice restaurants and clubs here.
- Shopping: there are many stores working non stop, on Sundays, etc.
- The Sofia's biggest asset in my opinion: Vitosha mountain. You can get there using the public transporation.
- Sofia is an ancient city, so you see the history when walking through the streets.

Beautiful buildings in Sofia

I've just found that I can put only 5 travelogues on a single location... So, I should reorganize my travelogues...
There are a lot of ugly buildings here as well, especially houses of flats in the suburbs.
