Prague: too pretty for words | Shot of the elevator inside Old Town Hall |
Prague is pretty. That is a foregone conclusion. But if you ask me, it's become a tad too touristy these days. One gets the feeling, while walking past those breathtaking buildings and awespiring spires, that this is a city that has traded its authentic vibe for a more modern-day practicality. No going into a particular street even for window shopping unless you pay an entrance fee beforehand, among other things.
But to stand in the towering expanse of St. Vitus Cathedral, to walk along the alleys that're full of surprises, to be able to hear Les Miserables in Czech and all that jazz... are, in themselves, an immense privilege. You might just-- just might-- find yourself jumping up and down like an excited child once more in the beautiful (there's no other word for it) legacy the past has left us. Or you could be busy picking up a far-too-widely-open jaw from the ground. Prague does that to you, touristy or not.
Give it a try-- you will be enthralled. |

vcelak Wed Nov 22, 2006 13:53 UTC I think people found it very exciting in the 15th century since the astrological clock has been working, if you want spectacular sight, visit 3D cinema. If you want to see unigue historical stuff, watch the astrological clock. | Zvrlj Sun Jul 30, 2006 09:14 UTC This photo of elevator inside Old Town Hall is great :-) Greetings from Kragujevac, Serbia | mrclay2000 Sat Dec 31, 2005 15:26 UTC I agree, but no one I saw was ever injured in the crowd waiting for the clock to chime. . the only injury was the high expectations of something grandiose. . . |
