Puerto Galera is located in Mindoro, Philippines. Mindoro is situated at the south of the island of Luzon. To date, Puerto Galera has been recognized as one of the best beaches in the world! You can go there from Manila by taking a bus from the LRT Buendia Station going to Batangas Pier. The trip takes 3 to 4 hours. The trip, though long, is not boring at all. Just take in the view of the city of Manila and then the rural lifestyle of the townsfolk of Batangas. During the mandatory bus stops, you may buy the delicious Buko Pie from the various vendors that either offer them at the bus stops or along the streets. Some would even board the bus to offer passengers the different delicacies. From the Batangas Pier, take a boat/ferry going to White Beach (usually leaves every hour). The trip from Batangas Pier to White Beach takes an hour and a half to 2 hours. Take in the breathtaking view of the Luzon Sea. 30 minutes to Puerto Galera you'll be able to see the small islands in the area. When you alight in White Beach, locals will approach you and offer private accommodations ranging in different budgets. Activities include snorkeling, island hopping, jet ski, banana boat ride, diving, etc. You may take the expert or beginner's trail going up the mountain near the beach. Going up is no problem at all except that you should bring along lots of water and wear hiking shoes. You'll be crossing a number of springs in order to reach the top. Along the trail you'll find some Mangyan houses, the original tribe inhabiting the island. At the top you'll find waterfalls. Take that plunge you deserve after the long climb up. Go back to the beach and dine in the various restaurants along the shore. And don't forget to try the Mindoro Sling!
I go to Puerto Galera every year. Its one of the best beaches in the Philippines I've ever been in- and I've been in lots of them. Accommodations are pretty cheap, food is real tasty. My year's incomplete without my Galera fix. |
