The One and Only

A City that has it All

New York is a serious contender for ''capital of the world'' status and for good reason. It is home to financial centers, world class museums, global companies, movie stars and famous districts not to mention it is a mecca for sports as well as home to some of the best plays and shopping areas in the world. New York is a place that demands time and comands respect, it overwhelms you as much as it charms you and most people fall in love with the Big Apple. You know a city is well known when it streets are world famous and 5th avenue and Broadway among others live up to their reputation. New York supplies visitors with an amazing amount to see and do and you can easily spend weeks in the city taking in all the sights from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge to the Theatre district. New York is an impressive place not only because of its world class sites but because of its diversity. Only in NYC can you rub elbows with celebrities and then stroll into diverse neighbourhoods like posh Soho, Little Italy or Chinatown. New York claims to never sleep and a city that deserves its status and the city truely has it all. Wonderful.

New Yorks unlimited options

New York has to have some of the most diverse sights any city in the world has offer, you can catch a play or a pro hockey, basketball, tennis, football or baseball game or take in a world class concert. New York has so many sights that to list them all would take hours but Manhattan is where all the action takes place but not the only place visitors should visit. Obviously, Manhattan has the Empire, Times Square, Ground 0, the shopping areas among dozens of others but New York including Brooklyn and even Harlem have interesting sights and things to see and do. The Brooklyn bridge , Ruckers Park or the Zoo offer interesting alternativers for travellers looking for things to do away from Manhattan. Museum wise, New York can hold its own in the world with some world class ones such as the Guggenheim or the American Museum of Natural History. The point? New York has endless things to do and see and my week was jammed packed and exciting and not many cities can capture my imagination and interest like the Big Apple did, Amazing place.
Little Italy

Cultural and Ethnic Diversity

New York intially struck me as an incredible melting pot of cultures and it was quite exciting to see so many people from so many different parts of the world in one place. New York has huge numbers of Italians, Chinese, Russians to Irish and there are literally dozens and dozens of languages spoken on the streets everyday. You will notice the cultural diversity as soon as you stop to wait at a red light or take your first metro ride, people speaking Farsi, Arabic, Hindi, Romanian among others and yet English is used throughout the city to form a common bond among its residents. Chinatown and Little Italy are a slice from the old world while other areas are dominated by Eastern Europeans, Irish or Arabs. New York is a funky and extremely fascinating place and this is due in major part to its melting pot of world cultures. The residents that call New York home truely come from every corner of the globe giving the city a cultural edge that is tough to match.

Great page. Intelligently written yet with the wonderment of a wide-eyed child. Can't wait to see THE city. Cheers from the desert!

I was thinking about visiting the UN building and your tip really encouraged me to go there! Thank you!

Sounds like Chinatown is worth the visit all on its own.

Great page on NYC. I see you've covered a lot of ground. I was amused by your subway local customs tip... we do love visitors, but PLEASE, you cannot slow our commute ;-)
